After the draw for the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini talked about the upcoming games against FC Barcelona. He said: “They have to be very concerned that they are playing against us. They are not the team they were two years ago.”
This is the first time in Manchester City’s history that the club has reached the knock out rounds of the Champions League. Pellegrini stated, “If you want to win something important you have to defeat the best teams.”  Their most recent result against Bayern Munich “gave us a lot of confidence,” he added.
In group D the club from Manchester finished second behind Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich, although both teams had 15 points. This was twelve points more than both Viktoria Plzeň and CSKA Moscow who finished third and fourth respectively.
Manchester City are currently fourth in the Premier League, three points behind leaders Arsenal. Last weekend’s showcase that ended 6-3 against that same Arsenal side showed that City is a force to be reckoned with. With 47 goals in 16 games the Citizens are the highest scoring team in England, having scored eight more than Liverpool and 14 more than Arsenal. On top of that, Manchester City is the only team that has managed to win all of its home games so far this season.
